MAGNESIUM CREAM
In making my magnesium cream, I use Zechstein Magnesium Chloride Flakes. These flakes are derived from the ancient Zechstein seabed in the Netherlands, one of the world's purest remaining subterranean mineral sources. Each four-ounce jar contains 4 grams of magnesium. In addition, I use beneficial essential oils, vitamin E, beeswax as an emulsifier, organic coconut oil, and grapeseed oil.

There have been no extensive scientific studies of the effect of transdermal Magnesium Chloride, however, one published in the National Institute of Health (NIH.gov) states this conclusion:

This study showed that a magnesium cream leads to statistically significant (p < 0.05) magnesium permeation compared with the two control solutions; Magnesium cream 1 showed greater magnesium permeation than magnesium cream 2, but the difference was not statistically significant. The MgCl2 solution showed a similar result to that of phosphate buffer. A formulated magnesium cream was able to successfully deliver the magnesium of pharmaceutical grade MgCl2 across human skin. Transdermal magnesium may play an important role in treating symptoms of sub-optimal magnesium status. However, further in vitro and animal studies are warranted to establish the efficacy of formulations.

There is much anecdotal evidence testified to by users of magnesium cream. Many find that transdermal use is effective in easing muscle soreness, muscle cramps, neuropathy, and migraines, improving restless leg symptoms, and muscle tiredness, and helping to improve sleep. An added benefit of using transdermal magnesium is that it does not cause stomach upset however, if applied to the stomach it can help ease constipation according to some users.

Other ingredients:
Distilled water - just water.
Coconut oil - organic coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties and antimicrobial properties.
Grapeseed oil - cold-pressed has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It is a good source of vitamin E. The hydrating properties of both oils may be an additional aid in the transdermal effect of magnesium.
Beeswax - It is anti-allergenic, antibacterial, germicidal, and an excellent emulsifier.
German Chamomile - reduces inflammation, reduces muscle spasms, and serves as a mild sedative. It also gives the cream a light blue color.
Patchouli - is an analgesic with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. And it has a wonderful aroma.
Eucalyptus - soothes tired, sore muscles, and east the pain of arthritis. May helpt to reduce blood pressure and has been shown to have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal action.
Lavender - Eases muscle pain and muscle tension, and helps relieve joint pain.
Rosemary - May reduce joint pain and muscle pain and reduce tissue inflammation and has anti-bacterial properties. It may be effective in reducing arthritic pain.
Optiphen Plus - Is a preservative that is used in cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, and liquid soaps. Why do I use it and how much do I use? Any time you use water in a formula it carries a strong potential of developing bacteria and molds. Oils over time can become rancid because of contaminants. The usage rate for Optiphen Plus is 0.5% to 1.5%. I use 0.8% and I also use grapeseed oil which has a high antibacterial quality. But why do I use it at all? Simply put, a product that has developed bacterial or fungal growth would have a greater risk to the user. I am constantly looking for better alternatives but to date, I have found none.

How to use - Apply magnesium cream to the soles of the feet, stomach, back of neck and on sore knees, muscles, or anywhere you have muscle aches. For muscle cramps apply directly to the affected muscle. For restless leg syndrome, apply to calves of legs. It's best to apply it after bathing and before bed or any time after exercise. You may experience a tingling sensation the first few times you apply the cream. You can wash it off after 20 minutes if desired. For migraines, apply to the nape of the neck and temples. Avoid eye area. For insomnia and problems with bowel irregularity apply to abdomen at bedtime.

My Honey Bee Naturals Magnesium Cream has a pleasant aroma. If applied to broken skin it may sting momentarily. Avoid getting in the eyes and wash hands after using.

I recommend keeping it in the refrigerator for a soothing cool application although refrigeration is not necessary.

A 4-ounce jar is $25.
